Unique herb collections make beautiful gifts

We want people to have a wonderful box opening experience when they receive their herbs, which is why we’ve put a lot of thought and effort into our packaging and accessories.

Our Plants

All our herbs are grown in the UK by independent nurseries, using a reduced-peat compost. We have a strict ‘no neonicotinoids’ pesticide policy and none of our plants are treated with anything that contains them. We encourage our growers to use biological pest control where possible. The plastic pots containing the herbs are made from recycled plastic and are recyclable.

Our Decorative Pots

Our decorative pots are made from 100% recycled cardboard pulp, mixed with a water based, natural adhesive. The are sealed inside and on the base with an eco-friendly, water resistant coating. The pots will start to biodegrade as soon as they get wet, depending on conditions. They can be recycled, composted or simply buried in the planting hole with your herbs. Damp pots might mark painted surfaces indoors.

Wooden Plant Labels

Detailed, variety specific growing advice, lore and inspiration is just a click away. All herbs come with a wooden plant label with a QR code linking directly back to their page on our site. Made from 100% renewable bamboo they are FSC certified (Forest Stewardship Council). The clear plastic stickers are recyclable

Herb Snips

All collections come with a pair of metal herb snips with super-sharp, carbon steel blades. Perfect for harvesting leaves, deadheading and giving your herbs a general make over.

The Herb Guide

How to grow over 30 of our most popular culinary and medicinal herbs, presented in a delightful guide. Containing care tips, plant information and advice on creating an indoor herb garden – it’s been described as a rollicking page turner! Printed on FSC approved paper.

Roman or common chamomile is grown for its flowers, a different, creeping variety ('Treneague') is used for lawns. The flowers produced by Roman chamomile are primarily used to make a soothing and relaxing tea. Like its toga wearing namesakes, it loves lounging about in the sun, so plant somewhere warm and bright. An indoor windowsill is a good place. Keep moist especially in hot weather. Chamomile will be really happy growing in our pot on a sunny windowsill until it needs potting on.

If you’re a basil lover, you’ll want to grow this. Most herbs are generally green leaved, so it’s always pretty to have something different. Like all basil, it’ll demand sun and warm conditions in rich, moist soil. Equally at home on an indoor windowsill or in a conservatory, there really is no excuse not to grow this alongside other basils.

Catmint is generally milder and less smelly than catnip but can still have a feelgood effect on felines. It has a minty aroma and produces spikes of beautiful deep violet flowers which will attract bees, potentially leading to some amusing but painful cat v bee interactions. Grow along the front of a border or in a raised bed, to spill out giving your kitty a nice comfy spot in the sun. Catnip will be really happy growing in our pot on a sunny windowsill until it needs potting on.

Garlic chives are an allium like chives, but a different species altogether; allium tuberosum. They originated in China and spread throughout Asia before the rest of the world. Larger and more vigorous than chives, with flatter, broader leaves and a distinct garlicky taste. Garlic chives are easy to grow and actually considered invasive pests in some countries. They enjoy the same conditions as regular chives, including being particularly suited to pots.

Fennel is a brilliant herb and would grace any garden on looks alone. But it has style and substance; tall delicate stems and wispy leaves are topped with vivid yellow umbels of flowers in late summer and its subtle flavour is prized in all manner of culinary dishes. It’s very easy to grow and vigorous too, enjoying fertile, moist, free draining soil. On a patio or balcony, grow in a deep pot to give the tap root plenty of space. Fennel is very vigorous but will be ok in our pot on a sunny windowsill to begin with.

Lemon Balm has been used for thousands of years to ease digestive problems and as a feel-good mood lifter. It’s an undemanding, easy to grow herb thriving virtually anywhere in the garden, in sun or partial shade. Bees love the pretty flowers, but it’s the leaves which pack a lemony, minty punch and have a delightful citrussy aroma. In cooking, it’s an interesting lemon alternative – especially in fruit cocktails, desserts, cakes and marinades. Lemon balm will be really happy growing in our pot on a sunny windowsill until it needs potting on.

Lemon verbena has the strongest lemony smell of any herb – it out zests lemon balm, lemon thyme and lemongrass with ease. It’s a quick growing plant which will form a reasonably sized woody shrub in the first season. Lemon verbena is a tender perennial and is unlikely to overwinter unless you bring it indoors, it actually makes a pretty decent all year round houseplant. Grow in a warm, sunny, sheltered position and keep moist but not water logged. Lemon Verbena is pretty vigorous but will be ok in our pot on a sunny windowsill to begin with.

It’s not a question of whether to grow lavender in your herb garden, it’s which ones? Hidcote is an English lavender (rather than French) and is the most widely grown variety in the UK, with good reason. It’s super tough – hardy, drought resistant and positively enjoys rubbish soil, it can also take a severe crew-cut if necessary. Hidcote is an early flowering lavender and is a magnet for bees and butterflies. This variety is known for producing high quality essential oil. Lavender Hidcote will be really happy growing in our pot on a sunny windowsill until it needs potting on.

Marjoram is Oreganos sweeter, milder twin sister. They’re often confused but once you get to know them, you’ll appreciate their subtle differences. Marj is a real sun worshipper- she can’t get enough rays and will be happy in a south or bright west facing position, in fertile free draining soil. Equally at home lounging in a pot on a warm windowsill, her leaves have a delicate flavour and are heaven scattered onto a pizza fresh from a woodfired oven (along with her mate, Basil). Marjoram will be really happy growing in our pot on a sunny windowsill until it needs potting on.

Apple mint (aka Woolly Mint) is a tall variety with bum fluffy leaves and a wonderful appley scent and taste. It makes a brilliant alternative to garden mint and enjoys the same conditions – rich, moist soil and dappled shade. It’s more vigorous than most mints, which is saying something, so you’ll need to keep an eye on it and give it a good seeing to if it gets out of hand. Best grown in pots and containers to curb its enthusiasm. Apple mint will be really happy growing in our pot on a sunny windowsill until it needs potting on.

A mint bred specifically for use in a mojito – what’s not to like? Said to have originated in Cuba – the home of the mojito, it has a delightfully mild minty taste with hints of citrus. Like all mints, its vigorous and pretty un-killable. It will enjoy a range of soils, but will do the rumba in fertile, free-draining soil kept moist. It’s another sociable mint and will happily spread given half a chance, so is best restricted to pots and containers in a sunny or semi-shaded position. Mint Mojito will be really happy growing in our pot on a sunny windowsill until it needs potting on.

The scent and flavours of mint and citrus combine wonderfully in this variety. It’s also as attractive as mints go, with bronze tinged leaves and burgundy stems and veins. With a distinct, zesty lime smell and taste, it’s a great variety for desserts, drinks and cocktails. Easy to grow with the potential to get out of hand if left unchecked, plant in fertile, moist, free-draining soil, somewhere in dappled sunlight or light shade. Mint Lime will be really happy growing in our pot on a sunny windowsill until it needs potting on.

Curled parsley is said to be milder than its flat leaved sibling and makes a great garnish used fresh. It likes rich, moist soil and prefers dappled shade to glaring sun – especially in pots which can dry out and encourage bolting. Pop a parsley plant on a kitchen windowsill to give you a handy supply of leaves, you’ll want to grow several and harvest in rotation to spread the load. Although parsley’s a biennial most people grow it as an annual as in year two, the leaves are more sparce and it sets seed. Parsley will be really happy growing in our pot on a sunny windowsill until it needs potting on.

Stevia is also known as candyleaf, sweetcheeks, sugarleaf and Sweet Herb of Paraguay – you can guess why. It’s hundreds of times sweeter than sugar and originates from South America, where it’s a valuable medicinal herb too. As a native of the tropics it loves similar conditions – a warm, sunny spot in dappled shade with its roots in damp, fertile, well-draining soil. Stevia is a frost tender perennial so will need to be bought indoors if you want it to survive overwinter. Stevia is pretty vigorous but will be ok in our pot on a sunny windowsill to begin with.

French Tarragon has an unfair reputation as a problem - difficult to grow and quick to die. You just need to remember its more tender than most and hates overwintering in wet soil. Plant in full sun, in a herb bed or large pot with fertile, light, free-draining soil and you’ll be fine. It’ll grow vigorously when happy and should return again and again as long as it’s tucked up over winter or bought indoors (in pots). Tarragon will be really happy growing in our pot on a sunny windowsill until it needs potting on.
